FreebieAuthority Comeback Conga Party Tonight!!!

(Some of you may not have received the initial email we sent out about this on Monday, so here�s a quick recap!)

Over the last few weeks we have been seeing renewed interest in having another conga party. Both TRAINN & OfferCentric have released freebie offers for the hottest new item, an Apple iPod Touch. Many of our members look back with fond memories on the fun and excitement of a FreebieAuthority Conga Party, and they have officially convinced us to get back in the game.

The party officially kicks off tonight (Friday) at 9pm ET. If the activity on our forums is any indication, we know we�ll be seeing a lot of familiar faces for the release. Get in on the action early to get the best chance at a top conga position! Even if you can�t make it tonight at 9pm ET, remember that we do our conga order based on how quickly your offer goes green, so you could still nag a top spot even if you aren�t able to make our party tonight.

FreebieAuthority is holding a contest to find out who will get the Community Appreciation Gift for the Trainn Desktops Conga. Here are the rules.

Contest Rules
Starting Wednesday (6/7) , we will be holding a contest that will go through Friday at noon Eastern Time. The winner of this contest will be getting the Community Appreciation Gift for the PROVEN release of Trainn's DesktopComputer4Free.com (to be released later this week). Here are the rules for this contest.
Tomorrow afternoon at 3pm Eastern Time, we will be releasing a list of 18 questions here in the forums. Answers to these questions are scattered out across our forums and site as well as a few hints that you will need to take to a search engine for more details.
The first person who submits all of the correct answers to contest@freebieauthority.com will be awarded the Community Appreciation Gift regardless of their activity in our forums. In the event that no one is able to get all of the answers correct by Friday afternoon, the first person to submit the most correct answers will be awarded the prize.
We will only accept one submission per user, so make sure that you have all of your answers lined up before you submit them.

FreePay Is Done

We have come to the decision that we will no longer be supporting FreePay nor their parent company, Gratis Internet here at FreebieAuthority.com.

These past several months, we have, numerous times, seen FreePay fall very short of the high standards they had set back in the beginning of the freebie boom. From the introduction of their new 90-day policy to allegations of selling user information to spammers to changing the referral requirements to get an iPod Nano from 5 to 10 just a week before everyone's account expires. Not to mention the fact that they still have not shipped out any Xbox360's well over half a year after they were released, with no indication of when they will be shipping them out and that they are refusing to offer people (aside from their close friends) a cash option.

There is no room for practices such as these and we believe that our community deserves better. As of today, FreePay congas will no longer be released or support on our site.

While we do feel sorry for, and wish to apologize to those of you who have signed up for any FreePay sites in the past month or so and are still trying to get your referrals, we do not feel that allowing even one more person to be scammed into completing offers on a FreePay site would be the right thing to do. Many of us know how it feels to be scammed by a freebie company and I do not wish that on anyone!

We would like your input on how we should handle the hundreds of external links to our FreePay congas. Please head over to the FreePay Conga Discussion and let us know what you think we should do.

Needless to say I was shocked when I read my email today...

My jaw hit the floor today when I saw the email forwarded to my personal account. Apparently the producers of Live with Regis & Kelly have just picked up on the whole Freebie Community scene and contacted us for an interview!

They asked if the 3 admins & 2 lucky community members (all expenses paid!) would be willing to fly out to their studios to film a session with them next week. Needless to say, all 3 admins will be calling off work - this is absolutely incredible for us!

We'll be looking through the forums for some active discussion and trying to figure out who is going to be going with us. Tell us why you wanna go!

The day is finally here, things are going to get crazy around here - and we are loving every minute of it! Say it with me... "I love FreebieAuthority!"

The admin at GetiPod4Free.com has announced that they are currently restructuring the website. GetiPod4Free.com is changing from a referral based site to a points based site. Here's what the admin had to say:

In the last few weeks we have ran into many issues with the stability of GetiPod4Free.com. We are in the process of restructuring the website. We will be converting the site to a points based site and are in the process of working out all of the details. Xbox 360's on the Horizon

Some inside information from GiftFiesta tells us that they are planning on receiving a large number of Xbox 360 consoles within the next week and a half and will then fulfill all of their orders in the following week. Could this also mean that the other major players will be shipping out all of their ordered Xbox 360's as well?

FreePay Moves to Mediocre

With their sudden policy change to a 90-day time frame for completing their referral-based sites, and the accusations that they went against their privacy policy by selling their users email addresses, FreePay's status here at FreebieAuthority has dropped them from being considered an 'Outstanding' company down to only a 'Mediocre' listing.

PuNJaB90 asks, "So who will take FreePay's old position as 'Outstanding'? Will it be Trainn? Maybe OfferCentric? Maybe there never will be another FreePay like company. All we can do is wait and see what happens."

More Proven Sites!

Freepay Explains 90 Day Policy

90 Day Policy Explanation (via Freepay Representative - Jake)

As you may have heard, anyone using a Gratis Internet site now needs to complete their offer � i.e., complete one offer themselves and have all their referrals� offers completed � within 90 days of opening their account.

Here�s the background:

We instituted the 90-day change so that our operations would work in tandem with the way people actually use our sites. The bottom line is: You move fast and we want to do the same.

We did a survey and found that 93 percent of our users complete their offers within 90 days of opening their account � and a sizable majority of those users (about two-thirds) actually complete their offers within six weeks or less.

It seems that if you�re using a Gratis site to score a free iPod, or flatscreen or PlayStation 3 or whatever � there are 15 offers in all, check out freepay.com to see them all � you want to get the whole thing wrapped up pretty quickly � and that�s fine with us.

Another reason we�ve made the 90-day change is that, without having an �end date� for accounts it was impossible for us to figure out where we were financially or to make accurate plans about ordering new goods to ship to our users. Sure, only about seven percent of our users had these never-ending (but never completed) accounts, but how many were going to finish the process and get their free item? None?, 10 percent?, 50 percent? More? Less? You get the picture� Too many loose ends � and none of them actually doing anyone any good. So we made the switch to a 90-day structure.

However, we wanted to make the change in a totally fair and aboveboard way. Rather than instituting some kind of retroactive approach � i.e., �Hey there, wanted to let you know your account has been cancelled!� � we decided to set the clock evenly for everyone.

As of March 1, 2006, and going forward, all accounts need to be completed within 90 days of being opened. If you have an older account, whether it was started a couple of months ago or several years ago, you have until June 1, 2006 (i.e., 90 days on from March 1) to complete your account. So far, no one seems to mind, as (like we said) the vast majority of our users complete their offers within 60 or so days, sometimes less. If you�re one of the few people who is disappointed by the change, then we�re sorry, but we hope you now see why the change needed to happen.

In an email sent out this evening, FreePay has announced a change to their Terms Of Service that has the entire freebie community wondering what is really happening over at FreePay and what long term, and possibly unforeseen, effects this may have.

Important Change to Terms & Conditions
This email concerns an important change to the Terms & Conditions for [all FreePay referral-based sites].
With a start date of March 1, 2006 � users of FreePay websites have 90 days to complete all offer requirements.

Upon completion of all offer requirements, existing users will need to print a "Redemption Form" that must be filled out in its entirety and mailed with a postmarked date no later than 30 days of completing their offer requirements.

You will find an indication of how many days you have left to complete the requirements on the Status page. When you have completed the requirements you will be able to download the redemption form from the Status page.
To coincide with this change, look out for an update soon that will make it even easier to refer friends!

Will this be the end of the FreePay reign as the best of all of the freebie companies? One can only wonder what "update" they are offering to try and ease the pain. All we can do now is wait and hope that FreePay has some sly trick up their sleeves to patch this seemingly mortal blow.

Apple Announces New Products!

Apple has just announced the released of some "fun", new products.

First on the list is the new, faster Intel-based Mac Mini. We were all expecting it and Apple delivered it! Still sporting the same form-factor as before, two different models were released. One of them featuring a 1.5GHz Intel Core Solo processor and the second with a 1.66GHz Core Duo processor giving the Mac Mini an up to 5x increase in overall speed!

The second product from Apple is the new iPod Hi-Fi. The new HiFi offers a crystal clear sound with a universal iPod dock. Measuring in at 17" x 6.6" x 6.9", it is quite compact and, thanks to the D-cell battery power option, very mobile. The iPod Hi-Fi is available in the Apple Store immediately with a price-point of $350.

One can only wonder how long it will take for the major freebie companies to setup some new sites.

You can help spread the word about this conga party by "digging" the story located right here. Note: You must be a registered user of digg.com to "digg" a story, but it is highly worth it - I read this site daily.

FreePay has completely blown the lid of their previous referral requirements with the release of the first site, a Free Laptop! Choices include a Sony VAIO, Gateway NX550, Toshiba Satellite , HP nx6110, or an Apple iBook. This is the hottest freebie offer since the introduction of the OfferCentric notebook site.

Things never seem to slow down in the freebie world! The GetFriends Network has just unveiled a 6 referral site. Some of the highlights are $275 PayPal, an Xbox360, or a $300 Amazon gift card. This is probably your last chance to snag a Free Xbox 360 prior to release!

For many in "pending", this is a rather large source of frustration as Prizecube doesn't plan on shipping out the items that their users have earned. In the Freebie World, companies come and go - but it is always especially painful when a legit company bites the dust. Gratis Runs Into Domain Issues

The domain freedigitalcameras.com has apparently been taken over by the owner of http://www.mostwanteddomains.com/. Sources inside Gratis only mention a "domain registration error". This could mean that either they let their domain expire and someone else picked it up, or it was forcefully hijacked. Either way, you will experience downtime for this site until Gratis resolves the issue. Gratis says that all account information has been preserved.

Edit: FreeDigitalCameras.com is back up and running now. Gratis didn't go into details on the exact cause of the domain problem, but we are glad everything is back to normal.

VoltageNet Shuts Down

In a surprising turn of events, VoltageNet turns tail and runs from the freebie arena. They mention problems receiving credit from the advertisers as the primary cause. The owner says that everyone who met their requirements will still get their gift. Take a look at this thread for more information. We are sad to see a legit company go.

We have pulled support for all FreeSuper sites including FreeSuperElectronics, FreeSuperStuff, and FreeSuperGiftCards. The first two sites have already been closed by the owners claiming "We've decided to move on to bigger and better things." And by doing so, they are scamming all those individuals that did not meet their unannounced deadline. I attempted to contact support asking for a better explanation, but they did not respond. While it remains to be seen if they will honor those people who have completed their requirements, we cannot support a site who engages in such fraudulent activities.

Dynamic Proof Pages

We have developed a system to integrate user proof pictures into our pages dynamically. Any of our conga members can now post pictures for inclusion into our system. In addition, each person now has their own personal page that lists out what proof they have submitted by company and product. To see a user's posted pictures, just click the "Posted by [alias]" listed on the proof page. For more information, click here.

New Web Host

While it was great to manage our own dedicated server running off of Donnie's internet connection, the bandwidth demands this site was causing became too much. We have now moved to a professional web host! I hope you all enjoy the jump in response time for page loads. This move also enables us to bring you new features which are currently being worked on.
